Applied
Research and Development
The purpose of the Applied Research and Development
Program is to apply research results to the implementation of telecommunications
technologies that users encounter, or will encounter, in daily life.
The applied research and development program consists of two types
of activity:
1) Proof-of-Concept projects which are designed
to take what we believe are solutions to telecommunication accessibility
problems and test and refine them as a proof-of-concept for use
by both industry and consumer organizations and...
2) Pre-Standards Research development projects
which are aimed at carrying out research which would support various
standards activities.
Pre-Standards Research Projects include:
- Creating a tool for evaluating digital video
products, compression techniques, and transmission techniques
to see if they can support mobile voice, video, and data through
single wireless transmission
- Examining the accessibility of interactive
voice response systems
- Creating a signal specification and test method
to determine whether or not a transmission mechanism could support
